Project Information
To eliminate the total design, dismantling and replacement of an existing retaining wall, remedial works and stability measure improvements were designed and implemented to a stormwater channel retaining wall at Deception Bay in Queensland.
Design
Platipus S8 anchor systems were detailed at 1.6m centres and load locked to a minimum depth of 2m along the existing retaining wall with a 150mm galvanised steel channel walling. The Platipus anchor systems were tested to an ultimate load of 22.5kN, each system proof loaded to 15kN and with a final small ‘active’ lock off load of 5kN.
Installation
Initial 100mm diameter holes were cored through the existing concrete block retaining wall and a total of 190 off Platipus S8 systems were installed and instantly load tested by the contractor over a short working period of 5 days.
The Platipus anchoring systems were chosen and deployed for the following main features & benefits:
- A major driving force for implementing the Platipus solution was its speed and ease of installation
- Overall cost benefits versus the design, demolition and construction of a new retaining structure
- An environmentally sensitive solution adjacent to a water course, no grouting measures necessary
